CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
2012
BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, childhood cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States; and WHEREAS, each year, more than 15,000 children and young adults are diagnosed with cancer; and
WHEREAS, approximately 2,000 children and young adults under the age of 20 are expected to die from cancer in 2012; and
WHEREAS, childhood cancer can have devastating effects on the children fighting the disease, as well as their families, friends and community; and
WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina joins the American Cancer Fund for Children, Kids Cancer Connection, the South Atlantic Division of the American Cancer Society, interested health care agencies, professionals and advocates, as well as families and friends of young cancer patients, in their efforts to promote awareness about childhood cancer and to find a cure;
NOW,THEREFORE, I, BEVERLY EAVES PERDUE, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim September 2012, as “CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
